PREGNANCY TIMELINE: WEEK 7
Your baby has almost doubled in size this week! From beginnings the size of a pin head, the baby is now the size of a BB pellet. Leg buds appear as short fins. The arm buds are longer and have divided into hand and arm/shoulder segments. Your baby's heart has divided into the left and right heart chambers and primary air passages are present in the tiny lungs. Eyes and nostrils are developing and some of the baby's internal organs are present.
What will happen at that first doctor's appointment? Questions! A lot of them. A physical exam will be performed and your medical history taken. Don't edit. Everything is important to your pregnancy-past gynecological problems, drug use, other health problems, etc. A number of tests will be done including:
- Blood test for blood type, anemia, infections, HIV, syphilis, etc.
- Urinalysis to screen for sugar, protein, red/white blood cells and bacteria
- Pap Smear
- Physical exam including a pelvic exam
- An ultrasound exam may or may not been done at this time and is dependent on you physician and your history.
During the first trimester of pregnancy doctor visits will probably take place on a monthly basis.
