LABOR LIST: WHAT TO TAKE TO THE HOSPITAL
Checklist: What to Bring to the Hospital
Print out this checklist to make sure you have everything you need to bring to the hospital or birthing center.
For labor:
- ____ Birth Plan
- ____ Bathrobe
- ____ Slippers
- ____ Socks (a few pairs)
- ____ Eyeglasses, if you wear them
- ____ Hair band, if you need one
- ____ Lip moisturizer
- ____ Snacks
- ____ Massage oils or lotions
- ____ Tennis balls or rolling pin (for back labor massage)
- ____ Relaxation materials: books, magazines, games, music, extra pillow
- ____ Good luck talisman; Pictures of someone or something you love (the inspiration you may need to see you through to the end)
For coach:
- ____ Watch with a second hand to time contractions
- ____ Camera and film or tape
- ____ Toiletries
- ____ Change of clothes
- ____ Snacks and reading material
- ____ Bathing suit, if a bath or shower during labor is an option
Postpartum:
- ____ Nursing bra
- ____ Breast pads
- ____ Maternity underwear
- ____ Nightgown
- ____ Toiletries
- ____ Address book and cell phone (or prepaid phone card)
- ____ Roomy going-home outfit and comfortable shoes
For baby:
- ____ Infant car seat
- ____ Outfit for the trip home
- ____ Receiving blanket (a heavy one if weather is cold)

- ____ One pair socks or booties
- ____ Cap
- ____ Snowsuit optional for winter
